Fakieh Aquarium is the first marine exhibition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it is one of the wonders of the Red Sea.
The aquarium's amazing design, including tunnels and huge water basins, enables it to contain more than a hundred species of diverse fish, and because of its unique architecture, visitors are able to enjoy the aquatic environment without the need for diving.
Aquarium Tour:
Fakieh Aquarium is the first marine exhibition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it is one of the wonders of the Red Sea. When you begin your tour in Fakieh Caves, you will discover many of the wonders of the Red Sea of fish, algae and marine life.
All the information in the aquarium is in Arabic and English, and you will be able to know the origin of the name of the Red Sea (which is related to algae mines), and learn about the Napoleon fish (the tarpani) that transforms from female to male, or the famous lizard with the two spines in the front of its tail.
If you want to learn more about the sea's inhabitants, look out for a type of jellyfish called a cassiopea, or garden eel, which descends and rises from the sand as visitors approach.
There are also scary fish that you would only want to see in an aquarium, such as the rockfish that can poison and kill an adult human within 5 minutes, earning it the reputation of the most poisonous fish in the world.
Aquarium staff are proud to inform visitors that some once-endangered marine species - including a giant sea turtle - have been rescued after suffering injuries or illness. All animals that fully recovered were released back into their natural habitat
